Tobias Kaya doesn’t care about The Savior. He doesn’t care that She’s the Ruler of the realm or that She purified the land, and he certainly doesn’t care that She’s of age to be married. But when competing for Her hand proves to be his last chance to save his family, he’s forced to make The Savior his priority.
Now Tobias is thrown into the Sovereign’s Tournament with nineteen other men, and each of them is fighting—and killing—for the chance to rule at The Savior’s side. Instantly his world is plagued with violence, treachery, and manipulation, revealing the hidden ugliness of his proud realm. And when his circumstances seem especially dire, he stumbles into an unexpected romance, one that opens him up to unimaginable dangers and darkness.
Trigger warning: this novel contains graphic violence, adult language, and sexual situations.
What I thought: This book grabbed me from the beginning and did not let go. At a whopping 562 pages, this book did not feel like it as I devoured this book in a few days. This bachelor meets battle royale was fun and gory and the romantic plot gave me just what I wanted.
I am a huge fan of Jenna’s YouTube channel as well as her no bull-shit informative videos (and classes on SkillShare) that made me do a lot of soul searching about how I want to proceed as a writer. I liked her voice (as in her writing voice as she explains shit) and so I knew I had to buy this book when it came out.
That same voice carried through in her story. It made for an easy read, which allowed me to sit back and enjoy the ride – one of the things I like most in a book. I can’t wait for book 2 – The Savior’s Sister….coming out? NOT SOON ENOUGH!
The Quote: Art is emotion. The visual representation of our deepest thoughts and desires. It should come from within – a place of truth and authenticity, yes?
Why I chose it: This quote hit ma hard as a writer – using words to express our deepest thoughts and desires. While a lot of my life flourishes with the use of the logical side of my brain, I literally feed my soul by allowing emotion to take over when I write.
